From pregnancy planning to your child's residence and Spanish citizenship
What the programme covers
Moving to Spain on a Digital Nomad Residence often coincides with a change in the family. RICHVOULT holds one file from the first organisational questions around pregnancy and healthcare in Spain, through birth registration, the child's documents and legal status, to the application for Spanish citizenship once the conditions set by law are met. Instead of separate specialists, an insurer, a clinic, the Registro Civil, a consulate and a set of immigration procedures, the family has one coordinator.
The route in full
Digital Nomad Residence, insurance and healthcare planning, pregnancy support, birth in Spain, birth registration, passport and consular documentation, health insurance for the newborn, Spanish residence for the child, the TIE residence card, residence period monitoring, and the Spanish citizenship application. Each step depends on the one before it, which makes the order more important than the speed.
Spanish residence for a child of a Digital Nomad
Where one parent holds a Spanish Digital Nomad Residence, the child may be granted the corresponding residencia as a family member, subject to the applicable requirements. The UGE provides for familiares de teletrabajadores de carácter internacional under Ley 14/2013, and applications are filed electronically through the Ministry, including through a representative where the appropriate authority has been granted. The child's route is built from the parents' status rather than from nothing.
The one-year residence path
Under article 22 of the Código Civil, a person born in Spanish territory needs one year of residence before applying for Spanish citizenship by residencia, rather than the ten years that apply by default. That residence must be legal, continuous and immediately preceding the application, so the period is calculated case by case against the child's own documents. Birth in Spain does not grant Spanish citizenship automatically in most standard situations with foreign parents, and no firm can promise a passport a year after the birth.
Insurance and maternity coverage
Whether cover exists is always decided by the insurer under the terms of the particular contract. Maternity coverage matters most where the pregnancy already existed when the policy was taken out: a number of medical policies apply a waiting period of several months to a birth or a caesarean, and a waiver of other waiting periods on moving from another insurer does not necessarily extend to the birth. Where cover for pregnancy and birth is material, obtain the insurer's written confirmation before any financial decision.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does a child born in Spain automatically get Spanish citizenship?
Not in most standard situations with foreign parents. A child's first nationality depends on the parents' nationality and the law of the country concerned. What birth in Spain does change is the residence period: under article 22 of the Código Civil, one year of legal, continuous and immediately preceding residence is enough to apply for citizenship by residencia, instead of ten.
Can my child get residence through my Digital Nomad permit?
Where one parent holds a Spanish Digital Nomad Residence, the child may be granted the corresponding residencia as a family member, subject to the applicable requirements. The UGE handles familiares de teletrabajadores de carácter internacional under Ley 14/2013, filed electronically through the Ministry.
Will a new health insurance policy cover a pregnancy that has already started?
Not necessarily, and that decision belongs to the insurer. A number of medical policies apply a waiting period of several months to a birth or a caesarean, and a waiver of other waiting periods when moving from another insurer does not necessarily extend to the birth. Get the insurer's written position for your policy before making financial decisions on it.
What does the support cost?
A consultation is EUR 150 and includes a personal roadmap. The pregnancy and birth concierge starts at EUR 850. Newborn documents and residence is EUR 950 and the citizenship path EUR 1,350. Full Support is EUR 1,750, Private Client EUR 2,750, and the complete path from pregnancy to citizenship EUR 3,900. Medical, insurance, government, consular and translation costs are separate.
We have not had the baby yet. When should we start?
Before the birth, ideally before or early in the pregnancy. Healthcare and insurance questions are cheapest to solve in advance, and the documents after a birth have to be produced in a particular order. Documents produced out of sequence have to be produced again.
Our child has already been born in Spain. Is it too late?
No. Newborn documents and residence covers families whose child is already born: the post-birth documents, the consular route, the insurance arrangements and the child's residencia.
Is RICHVOULT a clinic or an insurer?
No. RICHVOULT is neither a medical organisation nor an insurer, and does not guarantee insurance cover for pregnancy or birth. Medical decisions are taken by the client alone, together with licensed medical professionals.
